Oregon’s SARS-CoV-2 Wastewater Monitoring

The Oregon Health Authority is working with Oregon State University to collect and test weekly samples of wastewater (sewage) for traces of the SARS-CoV-2 virus that causes COVID-19.  Samples are collected from around the State, including Lincoln City.  The information helps OHA better understand where COVID-19 is circulating in Oregon.  Wastewater monitoring for SARS-CoV-2 is emerging science and is currently most useful as an early warning system for COVID-19 in a community before clinical cases appear and may detect COVID-19 from cases without symptoms and those who do not seek testing. At this time, it is not possible to accurately detect the number of cases of COVID-19 in a community based on wastewater testing.

The following are the results for the 1st quarter of 2021.
