Testing for California Variant of COVID-19 by OSU

It was reported by OPB yesterday, January 29, 2021, that the COVID-19 variant known as L452R, or the California variant, was “detected in four wastewater samples from the OSU campus and in samples from wastewater plants in Albany, Forest Grove, Klamath Falls, Lincoln City and Silverton.”

Lincoln City has been participating with the Oregon Health Authority and Oregon State University in their TRACE project that samples wastewater from municipal systems for COVID-19 and its variants.  According to Lila Bradley, Lincoln City’s Public Works Director, Lincoln City hasn’t received the test results that identified this variant as reported by OPB.  City officials are in contact with OHA and OPB representatives to learn more about the testing results and will report their findings as quickly as possible.
