• The City received a grant from Oregon State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) through the Oregon Main Streets Program, to conduct a walking survey of the commercial historic properties along Highway 101. The staff will be in town Monday, June 24^th– Wednesday, June 26^th.  The survey’s findings will help the city determine the historic integrity of buildings throughout the historic business districts and can help the city leverage historic assets to encourage economic growth and revitalization.  There are no decisions being made at the time of the survey and properties will not be designated historic in any way as a direct result of the survey work being done.  If you have questions contact the Planning and Community Development Department at (541-996-2153).

Lincoln City Parks and Recreation has been selected to receive a $30,000 play space grant from the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) and The Walt Disney Company. This investment supports NRPA and Disney’s combined goal of providing one million kids and families with greater access to play.

Part of the national Meet Me at the Park Play Spaces grant program, park and recreation agencies across the country were invited to share their best ideas on increasing access to play spaces for children and families in their communities. Agencies with the most innovative and impactful project ideas were chosen to receive $30,000 grants to build their projects.

Lincoln City Parks and Recreation is the 1^st Parks and Recreation agency in Oregon to be chosen for this grant program, and will use the $30k grant to build a brand new Nature Play Space, including a “Story Circle” with trails, in a new park being constructed at SE 3^rd and Keel.

“We are thrilled to have the support of NRPA and The Walt Disney Company in building our 1^st Nature Play area in Lincoln City., said Jeanne Sprague, Lincoln City Parks and Recreation Director. “We hope to incorporate many park amenities into our new Park located at SE 3^rd and Keel, and this is the 1^st step in the right direction.”

“NRPA is proud to collaborate with The Walt Disney Company to help more children and families experience the benefits of play,” said Kellie May, NRPA vice president of programs. “By increasing access to play spaces, this program will also provide unique activities tailored to the local community that support healthy lifestyles.”

Have you ever wondered about the local history behind a building? The City is excited to share a grant was received from the Oregon State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) through the Oregon Main Streets Program, to conduct a walking survey of the commercial historic properties along Highway 101.

Two staff members accompanied by two interns with the SHPO will be in town Monday, June 24^th through Wednesday, June 26^th. The public may see the team in the community throughout the week photographing properties and collecting preliminary information.  The walking survey will focus on buildings around 50 years old or older throughout the business corridor of the Pearls along Hwy 101.

The survey’s findings will help the city determine the historic integrity of buildings throughout the historic business districts of Lincoln City.  The information can help the city leverage historic assets to encourage economic growth and revitalization.  There are no decisions being made at the time of the survey and properties will not be designated historic in any way as a direct result of the survey work being done.

Please note that the team will have proper identification and will not need to enter private property.  All photography will be completed from the public right-of-way and private homes won’t be surveyed.  Property owners do not need to be present, but are welcome to provide the SHPO staff with any historical information that they possess about their commercial buildings. The Lincoln City Planning and Community Development Department is working hard on long term projects and addressing daily planning concerns.

• Draft Design Standards are now open for public comment. The survey asks for community feedback and engagement on design aspects for the City such as; pedestrian spaces, parking, building design, coastal design character and more.  Take the survey here.
• Senior Planner, AnneMarie Skinner has been conducting public outreach along HWY 101 in regards to the City’s sign regulations. She will be presenting her findings to the Planning Commission.  The Planning Commission will begin work studying the topic on June 18^th and July 2^nd.
• The Building Code Division has issued new single family home permits. The Division continues to oversee code violations and respond accordingly.
• The next Planning Commission meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, June 18^th at 6pm in the Council Chambers at City Hall.
• The North Lincoln City Comprehensive Plan Amendment for the area known as the Villages has been submitted and will be discussed at the Planning Commission Meeting scheduled for July 16, 2019. There is a City Council Public Hearing tentatively scheduled for August 26, 2019.
• The zoning code is currently being reviewed in reference to the establishment and use of emergency caches addressing tsunami resilience.

Summer Reading Club Family Nights Begin June 18^th at Driftwood

Driftwood Public Library is ready to blast into A Universe of Stories! Our 2019 summer reading program, for all ages from babies to adults, begins June 1st. All ages can sign up to be a part of the adventure. Reading throughout the summer months is rewarded with incentives as well as fun programs offered free to the community.

Teen Tuesdays (for 6^th grade and up) begin June 18^th and run each week beginning at 3pm.

Family nights with performances from juggling, to storytelling, to dance, and much more begin Wednesday, June 19^th at 6:30 p.m. The family nights are sponsored by Driftwood Friends of Driftwood Public Library and the Lincoln County Library District, and lodging is provided by D’Sands Condominium Motel. Summer Reading Club evenings continue every Wednesday evening through August 14th! All events are free and open to all ages.
